The college of dentistry at the University of Baghdad has organized recently a scientific seminar entitled “The role of the dentist in the detection of serious and deadly diseases” delivered by the Syrian dentist Prof. Dr. Nasser Nasser al-Din.
The lecturer asserted that five minutes of the dentist’s time should be given to each patient before giving dental treatment for the purpose of detecting serious diseases through some symptoms that may be present in the mouth such as ulcers, tumors, changes in the color of teeth and others that are associated with injuries, disorders or internal diseases that poses a threat to the patient’s life, so the dentists frequently are afforded the opportunity of observing manifestations of systemic disease in individuals before these patients seek medical aid.
